Letterbox hybrid cache off of the green mountain bike trail on the west shore of Lake Lawtonka. The trails and the cache are off limits during hunting season, 1 October to 15 January; logs during that time will be deleted.
A post office was established in Medicine Park on October 13, 1908. This month, not quite 106 years later, the US Postal Service is considering whether or not to keep the Medicine Park post office open; if it stays, it will at best have reduced hours. We wanted to place this cache in honor of the postal employees who have worked so hard to serve our little town for over one hundred years, and we hope we get to keep our little post office! (Wish us luck!)
The cache is at the posted coordinates. Drive to the cattle guard at the east entrance to the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge and turn north onto the road marked Lawtonka Access. Park and start your quest at the dirt cul-de-sac just south of coordinates, head north and cross the ramp fence to leave the wildlife refuge.
(Alternate route: park at Lawtonka Dam and take the blue bike trail along the south shore of the lake, this will bring you to the same spot and add about 0.75 miles each way.)
Take the green trail in the direction of the bicycle trail arrows; as you get close to the coordinates, you will enter a wooded area. Cache is about 200' off the trail on the south side of a dead tree.
