Found this beautiful spot while on the way to a couple of puzzles.
Geography was my favourite subject in Primary School.
I especially loved learning about all the rocks and how they came to be.
Over 200 million years ago, a chain of violent volcanoes ran from Chillingham in NSW to the north of Mt Tamborine. They covered the area in ash and rhyolite flows. These erosion resistant rocks allowed the creek to cut a narrow gorge with falls at the end and sculptured caves worn into each side.
At this spot you will see how the force of the water falling over the rock has caused the rocks underneath to give under the weight and crack.
These rocks have then split and rolled around under the water to form a ring around the edge and create a pool.
Back Creek Gorge is covered with strewn boulders that have been moved around by the force of the water flowing down from above.
While this area has been popular with bush walkers for over 100 years it is constantly changing due to the running water moving the rocks and the erosion to the rocks due to the constant water flow.
Questions:
1. what are the type of rocks you are standing on
2. what is the usual colour of these type of rocks
3. Approximately how high is “Lips Swimming Hole Water Fall”.
4. Please feel free to upload a photo of the falls. (optional)
