Geocache Description:

Nice easy one, cache is a nice wee box, I have left a personal pathtag in the cache for the ftf to keep and log.

The Hill of Faughart is 5km North of Dundalk Town. The ancient burial ground is the final resting place of Edward the Bruce. Edward was the brother of Robert Bruce, King of Scotland. He was crowned King of Ireland at Dundalk on May Day, 1316. He was defeated by Sir John Birmingham at the Battle of Faughart on October 14th 1318. The graveyard is also the location of an old well, normally associated with St. Brigid. It is said that the water in the Well rises on her feast day, February 1st. The graveyard is actually at one of the highest points in the area, and therefore so too is the Well. This makes the myth all the more interesting, as a well is normally located at a low point, landwise to get water. On the eve of St. Brigid's Day, Feb 1st, there is a candlelight procession from Faughart graveyard to St. Brigid's Shrine at N54 03.209 W006 23.833. There are wonderful panoramic views of Dundalk Bay from this location. There was a cache here before, and I have plagiarised pretty much there whole description...
