This is a nice spot to sit and look out over the little hill below, and the ferns nearby, if the season is right. Around you is the classic northern hardwood forest, with beech, oak, red maple, white ash and scattered birches prevalent here. There's nice birdsong to be heard, and in fall and winter winds the beech leaves will be whispering.

I've placed this series of caches in Balance Rock State Park to highlight some wonderful features that these forests have to offer. You'll start at the parking lot near Balance Rock walking on well used ATV trails, before strolling on bike paths, then bushwhacking to the top of Laurel Hill and back down.
