The Indigo Bunting, Passerina cyanea, is a sparrow-sized migratory bird of North America. Male Indigo Buntings have a brilliant blue body and head with darker wings, while the female is a warm brown with whitish throat. In Kansas, Indigo Buntings are found statewide. Indigo Buntings are frequently found along weedy or brushy transitions from field to forest. The woodlines of this park are excellent habitat. If you listen closely, you can hear the males sing in late spring and early summer. Notes are often sung in pairs.
