Race Day: October 12, 2014 2:00PM-4:00PM
As you may or may not have heard, the Geological Society of America, the group that reviews Earth Caches, is having a virtual 5k run during the week around International Earth Cache Day. All those who take part in the run will earn an icon they can add to their geocaching profile. So I figured why not organize a nice little fun run for all the local cachers.
The race will start at the posted coordinates and follow the bike trail to the required earth cache (GC2FCH8). You can run or walk it is your choice. Following the race we will all head over to the additional parking area for a group photo and chit chat. Those not wishing to race are welcome to hang out at ground zero or do some of the local caches and stop back for the photo and socializing event.
Here are the rules of the race per GSA: How to participate All participants must agree to and follow the Official Run Rules printed below and on the bib. By printing off the bib or T shirt or by completing any of the online forms, you have agreed to follow all the Official Run Rules. Official Run Rules You should consult with your medical practitioner before the run to ensure that you are healthy enough to participate. Your run must start at or end at an active EarthCache. Your run must cover at least 5km. You must keep your own accurate time. You must run on a safe route and not interfere with private property, roadways or other activities. You assume all risks associated with this activity and release the EarthCache program, the Geological Society of America , geocaching.com and any associated organization or individuals from any liability. By entering you agree to receive communications from The Geological Society of America (GSA) which may include electronic newsletters, emails and postal delivery of information about the Society’s operations, programs and opportunities. To print out a race bib, order a t-shirt, and log your time click on the link on this page. If you plan to run please log a will attend so that I know how much water we will need. I am also working on getting some prize donations for the race. more information will follow.
If you do not wish to run you are welcome to stop by after the race for some socializing at the event to follow.
