Geocache Description:

This is a Multi-cache to replace the original small GC4H29G "Rannoch Station - gateway to the moor" cache set by John Rannoch and now archived.

Rannoch Moor is a popular destination for walkers, Geocacher and climbers alike keen to experience the remote beauty of the area. A track leads from Rannoch Station through to Glencoe.

Whilst the walk is beautiful, it can be a dangerous and unforgiving place for the inexperienced or ill equipped.

There is a Visitor Centre, Café and toilets on the station platform.

Easy parking available at nearby Rannoch Station, a popular spot for rail enthusiasts.

The above co-ordinates will take you to the British Railways Rannoch Station

Rannoch Station

In order to get this cache you will have to gather information around Rannoch Railway Station and work out the co-ordinates for the location of the cache box to sign the log book. . _________________________________________________________________________________________________ In order to find the cache box co-ordinates you will need the following information:

To the North end of the railway station platform you will find the signal box. Inside the signal box you will see a number of coloured signal hand levers.

There is a large yellow sign on left hand side of the Glasgow railway line, about 32 metres North of the end of the station platform. There are two black dots at the bottom of this sign and two digits on the yellow sign.

The cache box co-ordinates are N 56° 41.ABC W 004° 34.XYZ
_________________________________________________________________________________________________
A=No of Green levers
B=Total number Yellow + plain Red + Blue levers + 1
C=First digit on the yellow sign minus second digit on the Yellow sign

X=The number of blue levers + The number of plain black levers
Y=The first digit on the Yellow rectangular Sign.
Z=Total number of all the levers - 5

Now you can work out the co-ordinates of the cache box. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________
Take care when you are at the station. Do not cross the railway tracks or trespass beyond the platforms. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________
The cache is a Lock and Lock 220 ml container with a log book, pencil and small items for trading. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ You might like to post a photograph of yourself with your GPS standing in front of the Rannoch Station sign on the platform.

As another little extra, NOT required to log this, cache you might want to find out more about Rannoch Station by finding out the answers to these questions. All the answers can be found on the station platform.

1. Who was the clock maker that supplied the Rannoch Station platform clock ?

2.Which company made the pillars on the pedestrian bridge that crosses to the station platform from the car park ?

3. Who was James H. Renton ?

If you can't find the answers, send me a PM and I will send you the answers. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________
