How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

The cache is located at the posted coordinates but this is a challenge cache so you must fulfill the challenge requirements before logging this cache online.

Challenge Requirements

1. Log at least one cache within each degree interval around the center point near Fredericton, NB with the coordinates of: N45° 50.930 W66° 31.760. Note, these coordinates are the center point for the challenge; the cache is NOT located there. See the posted coordinates on the cache page for the coordinates of the final.

2. Only caches within New Brunswick count.

3. Past finds count including archived caches.

4. All cache types may be used.

5. For caches where final coordinates aren't provided on the cache page (e.g., unknown, multi, letterbox hybrid), use the posted coordinates on the cache page.

6. To figure out which degree a cache falls into, you can use the online tool provided below or, alternatively, use the great-circle distance formula to calculate it yourself assuming that 0 or 360 degrees is positioned at 12:00.

7. If the location of a cache within a degree is questionable, I may ask to view your calculations to verify how you determined the cache falls within a particular degree.

8. Pre-finds of the physical cache before meeting the challenge requirements are allowed - after the FTF has been logged.

In summary, to satisfy the challenge requirements, you must log at least one cache within New Brunswick, of any type which is within 0-1 degrees bearing from the center point near Fredericton at the coordinates of N45° 50.930 W66° 31.760. And then you must log at least another one for 1-2 degrees bearing and so on, up to the 359-360 degrees span. You will need at least 360 logged caches to meet the challenge requirements. An online tool is provided to help you with this challenge.

At the time of cache publication, all 360 degrees have at least one active cache in them. To be fair to those cachers who own the single cache within a degree, I will allow the cache to be logged with that single missing degree for the cache owner. Also if at any point there are no active caches within a degree, I will allow the cache to be logged without a cache being found within that degree.

When you complete the requirements of finding a cache in every degree, you are eligible to log the final online. If you used the online tool, you don't need to do anything else as I will verify your stats by using the online tool. If you used an alternate means to identify the degrees, I will contact you through your geocaching account if I have any questions about your calculations.

Online Tool

You can check your progress in the challenge using this online tool.

Simply enter your geocaching name into the "Profile name" drop-down box and click the "Filter" button. The tool will help you identify the degrees within which you have found at least one cache. Additionally, the online tool will identify the degrees where you haven't found a cache and will provide you with a list of active caches to choose from. If you have any questions about how the tool or the challenge works, either post a note to the cache page or send me an email through my geocaching profile page.

A special thanks goes out to wsnapo who inspired me to create this challenge cache.
And to ganja1447 who is the creator of the first 360 degree challenge which is located in Sweden (GC423AB).
Congratulations to Sportsman01 for the FTF. A job well done!
