The hill to the right of the winding house is known Blackham, or Blackim, Hill has given its nickname (The Mount) to the old Wesleyan Chapel that you can see from the top of Sandy Lane. Blackham Hill is the highest point for a considerable distance at 500 feet above sea level, and there are some lovely views if the weather is clear.
The Winding House itself is a rare example of a single hauler working two incline railways, and the machinery is mainly still intact. One incline leads to Springwell Colliery and the second leads down to Black Fell and on towards Kibblesworth. Although it is unlikely to run again, there are sometimes displays of the machinery and how it would have been when it was functional. Trophy for FTF and some starter swappables. Please replace this cache very carefully to avoid it being muggled.
Congratulations to g.o.caching for FTF!
