In celebration of my 73 birthday, we wanted to place a difficult cache, so this is it.
The Old Fort Trail is located off Babine Lake near Smithers BC. It is an extremely steep and mountainous trail that begins at lake level elevation at about 2335 ft. and climbs to 5136 ft. over a distance of approximately 4 kilometers. It would take you all day to reach this cache, and carry emergency gear in case something goes wrong. Take bear spray as we encountered bear signs. It would be possible to camp overnight in the old lookout, but I am not aware that you are allowed to. We made the trip up and back in one day, but we knew where we were going.
This cache would not be available with snow on the ground unless you wanted to dig down at the base of a pine tree.
Be aware that to get to the trailhead you need a boat. Or do it quickly in a helicopter.
The cache is hidden 2-3m off the main trail, at the base of a stunted pine tree at the end of the "T", on the way to the lookout. It is a small lock & lock. Suggest you print out spoiler picture picture to show you where it is. BYOP
