Tranquility
This intermediate plateau provides you the tranquility of the balance between high mountains and ocean.
You are high above sea level what offers you a great view on the scenery around.
You are far below the summits of the mountains, giving you the chance for a quick hike up to the cache and usually stay below the clouds, and enjoy, first the sight and second the motivation for a rest.
This place is usually touched by only very few people. And the noise of the sea is far away, so enjoy the silence and tranquility of the moment.
When you park your car in the recommended area it is an easy hike of 2 km up the hill. You have to make an ascent of about 150 m on a smooth path mainly covered with grass. Take your time to watch the changing views around, first mainly on Blasket Sound in the west and the Mt. Eagle in the southeast. You can easily see the path up the Mt. Eagle, also a nice hike to the cache “chasing rabbits” on the summit of that mountain. When you come higher the view also opens to the Cruach Mhartain in the east and the Ventry Bay between those two mountains. When you are nearly at the top, you have the choice between two plateaus to rest and enjoy the view around. The first left from the path is a little bit lower, but more directed to the Blasket Sound, or the second, a little bit higher, providing you a great view of about 300° from Mt. Brandon in the northeast over Smerwick Harbour and the three sisters, Sybil Point in the north, Clogher Head and Dunmore Head with the Blasket Islands in the west and southwest, the Mt. Eagle in the south and southeast and Ventry Bay in the southeast, too. When the weather is clear you can even look over to the Iveragh Peninsula.
When you have reached the area between the two plateaus for the cache you have to go right hand in the direction of the beautiful Cruach Mhartain behind. You will come to waypoint 1, where you turn left on a sheeptrail. Another few meters away you come to waypoint 2, where you again have to turn left on a very narrow sheeptrail to come to the cache. Please use these trails to step up not to trample too many things down. The cache is a few meters away from the sheeptrail and you cannot miss it. It is a small container of about 500 ml and it has enough space to exchange TBs.
So take your time, enjoy the views all around, enjoy the silence and tranquility and fill up your batteries!!!
