More information on the Te Araroa trail (New Zealand's Trail) is available on their website: http://www.teararoa.org.nz - This segment runs from Puhoi to Remiger Road, it can be walked in either direction. We recommend parking a car at each end if possible. There are some hills along this pathway which, unless you're super-fit you probably won't want to do again for a return walk to the car. - There are no dogs and no bikes on the trail, sorry.
These caches were placed in the middle of winter after weeks of horrendous rain, so we probably got to see the track at its worst. Patches were extremely muddy, there are large segments of this trail where no base has been put down, having said this, with care it was perfectly walkable, but we did appreciate having good tread on our hiking boots.
The trail runs between two bridges, this bridge is fairly solid compared to the one on the other end which is a swing bridge. :) If you're doing park and grabs, consider heading 5 or so km down the road and find the other bridge as it's quite interesting and fun to bounce around on.
This shows the relief of the trail heading westbound.
Here in Puhoi, you are near a famous cheese factory, some excellent local stores and of course a famous, local pub. I know we were happy to stop for a re-fuel after our walk. You might enjoy this too.
This cache has been placed in a similar spot to a previous cache which went missing, so I'm happy to fill in the gap left when it was archived.
This cache is smaller than most. :)
