The BiologyCaché series was “created especially” for geocachers who love flora and fauna and have the wish to learn biology or show their knowledge of this subject. Probably the series will not be visited as much as I would like, especially for all the effort and dedication that was needed to prepare the caches, but it is an idea that I have got and am finally able to share with all geocachers. My gratitude goes out to my friend Checho Bacallado for having shown me nearly everything that I know about this specific “natural science”.
Biology is a natural science concerned with the study of life and living organisms, including their structure, function, growth, evolution, distribution, and taxonomy. Modern biology is a vast and eclectic field, composed of many branches and subdisciplines. However, despite the broad scope of biology, there are certain general and unifying concepts within it which govern all study and research, consolidating it into single, coherent field.
With the “BiologyCaché” series we would like to fill in the gap that exists in the earthcache type of caches. As every geocacher has to know, an earthcache … “is a special geological location people can visit to learn about a unique feature of the Earth … Typically, to log an EarthCache, you will have to provide answers to questions by observing the geological location”. On the contrary, to solve a “BiologyCaché”, you don’t have to visit a physical location. You can find all information over the internet or in scientific publications to discover the animal or plant that is described in the cache and to find its scientific name. (The scientific name [of a plant or animal] is a unique name that has to be used all over the world in any language.) With this name you will obtain the data needed to solve the cache puzzle and get the final coordinates. Having solved the puzzle, you are invited to attach your own photos of the species presented to your found log. In this way you will contribute to the knowledge of these species and increase our joint photo archives.
All photos of animals and plants in the cache descriptions have been taken by members of FamiDelCau team. Some of the images also have georeferencing, which can serve as an additional hint to solve the “mystery” or to suggest you to which place you can go to observe the nature. The difficulty score ranging from one to five stars is assigned by our team according to measure.
The method of solving the “mystery” is the same in the entire BiologyCachés series set by our team. There is a pdf attached for downloading showing an example and the necessary guidelines that will help you check the result.
