Geocache Description:

Rose Ness Lighthouse and Beacon

This cache is a 700 ml cliplock container with logbook and pen with room for swaps and trackables.

This is a return Coastal walk of about 3.5 miles. Direct access from the road end is not recommended as the owner of the house there does not welcome parking or visitors. The scenic coastal walk from the car park is much more interesting with a few waypoints and waypoint caches.

The Beacon was built in 1867 and the Lighthouse constructed in 1905.

The Beacon is a very prominent feature which can be seen clearly from many vantage points. When returning from my first visit to the Beacon, I met several young people laden down with climbing gear. I remember thinking that was unusual as the cliffs were in the opposite direction. When I looked on line for information about the beacon I discovered a picture of climbers scaling the beacon.

Close to the cache there are several large stones that are about the size of standing stones. Can you imagine trying to move one of these 5000 years ago with primitive tools!
