Near to the cache were three short cists were found at Fintry Bay when a tumulus (described as a sand hill) 30-40ft long, 60ft in circumference 10-12ft high was dug through in August 1873 by men making a new road around the island. The cists contained blackish sand or greasy looking substance. They were 4-5ft down, at the outer edge of the tumulus, and resting on solid rock.
The site of these cists was re-excavated in 1978. 2 cists were examined but both were found to be empty.
