From Burrs: Can spend a whole day at Burrs Country Park, free parking. There’s so much to do. Activity days, especially canoeing, picnic area, obstacle course, large dog walking field, lots of Geos! There is a small cafe with toilets and a great traditional pub. Threee sculptures here, The Waterwheel, Picnic Table and Stone Circle. From the Stone Circle Sculpture follow the path along the river. Lots of other caches along the way.
This is the first day of the 6 week summer holidays so we have hidden a few caches from Burrs heading towards Sumerseat along the Irwell Sculpture Trail.
From Sumerseat follow the Public Footpath off Railway Street, there are other caches along the way.
Amazing views, there will be lots of Blackberries to collect around September. Lots of wildlife to see.
The most auspicious time to encounter fairies was under an elder bush on Midsummer's Eve, when the Fairy King and Queen and their train could be seen passing. There are many references in folklore advising against sleeping under an elder and it has been suspected that the strong smell of elder leaves may have strange influences.
Can get muddy in parts and sorry not suitable for pushchairs.
