Jackson County Trail-Night Hike, S'Mores and CITO Cache In Trash Out® Event

Save the date, 9/19/14. This event will run from 6:00pm-8:30pm and will begin at the designated parking lot area.

Sunset will be close to 7:15 pm so we will get a chance to enjoy the twilight hours on this scenic route. It will quickly get dark as the moon will only be about 14% visible and will not provide us with much light to navigate with. The trail is well maintained and everyone is welcome to bring their own light source to guide them. The naturalist claims that the most beautiful part of the hike will be in the dim moonlight, with only the sounds of the river, nature and the shuffle of feet as we walk in the darkness. The Jackson County Recreation Trail stretches for 6 miles along the Maquoketa River and offers some spectacular views of the river valley and the bluffs that rise above it. This is a night time CITO hike and will concentrate on the trash pick up and maintenance on a 2 mile stretch of the trail. Enjoy the company of your fellow cachers while we hike, clean and clear the trail. We will have a Naturalist from the Jackson County Conservation to help us identify any creatures we might encounter. This hike is planned for the evening time and after dark, so some personal lighting will be required. At the end of the hike we will have a fire and the fixins for s'mores to enjoy.
