30 years ago on the 22nd of May (1984) Five Argentinian Adventurers climbed aboard a Wooden Raft in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and set sail. The aim was to prove that 3500 years before Christopher Columbus, African sailors may have accidentally reached the shores of America led by the Atlantic Ocean Currents.   The name of the Expedition was "Expedición Atlantis"

Inspired by the 1947 'Kon-Tiki' Crossing of the Pacific by Thor Heyedahl.

The 'boat' was a raft which was 13.6 meters long by 5.8 meters wide, built out of logs, rudderless and with  only one sail.  After 52 days at the mercy of sea they eventually arrived at La Guaira in Venezuela on July 12 1984, Having proved their theory.

During this time they covered aprox. 3,200 Nautical Miles (5,000 kilometers)

The crew consisted of

Alfredo Barragan (leader), Jorge Iriberri, Horacio Giaccaglia, Daniel Sanchez and Felix Arrieta Magariños.

There was NO Gps system in those days !!!
