Welcome to the former village of New Rome, Ohio.  With an area of only 12 acres, this former area was once known as the worst speed trap in the United States.  Having a population of only 60 residents this former village once employed 14 policeman to patrol its boundaries.  The outrageous citations issued by the police included:  having valid out of state tags, valid tinted windows and driving too slow.  Over $400,000 in revenue was generated annually by the police here and the corruption was rampant throughout the village government.  Theft and misuse of funds were uncovered and elected officials to government offices neglected elections and just reappointed themselves to office.  It got to a point where motorists would avoid this small stretch of West Broad Street due to the worry of getting pulled over.  

In 2004, after much controversy and national media attention the Ohio Supreme Court officially dissolved the village of New Rome and its 12 acres were absorbed into Prairie Township finally putting and end to the corruption that reigned in this small part of Ohio.
