CITO HDQ Traditional Cache

The Southern Coachella Valley Community Services District (SCVCSD) was established by a vote of the citizens on Dec. 2, 1986. The district is governed by a Board of Directors: elected community members who live within the boundaries of the District, and are not compensated by salary or benefits. It has been my pleasure to serve on the board since September of 1999.

The district overseas the management of waste collection and hauling and a graffiti removal program. BURTEC is the official waste hauler for our district, and generously assists with many educational and environmental reclamation projects. Through the collection of roadside trash and tires, establishing mandatory residential pick up, sponsoring community clean up days and Trash Busters, a sharps program, shredding and EBOP (electronics, batteries, oil, and paint) days, a hotline for graffiti and trash abatement, and creation of the TOM (Thermal, Oasis, and Mecca) Site the SCVDSD has significantly reduced the amount of trash and litter that mars our scenic rural roads. The TOM site is a transfer station, open once a month. It gives residents a FREE place to dispose of bulky items. BURTEC continues to be an enormous asset in all of these efforts, and I enjoy working with their people.

The services district also provides supplemental law enforcement in the unincorporated areas of Mecca, Oasis, Thermal, and Vista Santa Rosa through a district team of several Sheriff deputies and one sergeant. That small team currently boosts the law enforcement presence in the area by more than 300%.
