Trail Map

Park History
The area is located on a peninsula formed at the confluence of Julington and Durbin creeks, and has approximately nine miles of shoreline along the two creeks. The peninsula is a long sandy ridge that grades into floodplain swamp and marsh along the creeks’ shores. Natural communities consist of sandhill along the higher areas near the center of the peninsula and flatwoods at the lower elevations. The preserve contains extensive floodplain wetlands, providing water quality and floodplain protection for both creeks and the St. Johns River. Wildlife viewing: Known wildlife at the preserve include bald eagle, osprey, gopher tortoise, bobcat, turkey, deer and numerous species of wading and songbirds. Manatees seasonally swim in both creeks. Recreational activities: Hiking, picnicking, horseback riding, bicycling and nature study.

2014 JAXPARKS GeoChallenge:
The City of Jacksonville has teamed up with The Friends of Jax Parks to bring you the third annual The JaxParks GeoChallenge. This year, the Friends of Jax Parks have hidden 30 new caches that will let you explore a diverse selection of parks around Jacksonville.

Geocaching is an outdoor adventure game similar to a treasure hunt played with a GPS device. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, take a trinket from the cache, leave something of greater or equal value in return for the next person and then share your experiences online. There are over two million active geocaches around the world and now with the JAXPARKS GeoChallenge you can explore Jacksonville's parks.

Disclaimer to New Geocachers:
Please join us in playing! All are welcome who observe and obey the rules. Please do not move or vandalize the container. Replace the cache like or better than you found it and when you leave, make sure the cache is completely covered. The real treasure is just finding the container and sharing your thoughts with everyone who finds it.
