A little history about the old Moehling General Store (now the ice cream parlor):
The Moehling General Store is Mt. Prospect's oldest commercial building. Built in 1880, the building originally as Mt. Prospect's first general store and also Mt. Prospect's first post office. As proprietors of the store, John and Emilia Moehling provided the necessities of life to fledgling community.
On September 9, 1999 the building was moved from its original location at the corner of route 83 and Northwest Highway to make way for a new retail/residential development. The building has been renovated to be adaptively reused as retail, professional, or office space.
The general store building and the surrounding park will serve as a window into Mt. Prospect's past, a living memorial to honor and celebrate those original settlers like John and Emelia Moehling who helped found Mt. Prospect and gave us all a place to call home.
