This is a cache inspired by the 31 days of Geocaching in 2013 and the 7 Souvenirs of Geocaching 2014 - a chance to get a puzzle on the first day. You are looking for a regular sized, sistema container. There is nothing at the posted co-ords but a Trig point.....
Yorkshire is the largest (and most beautiful) county in England with a population of over 5 million. The 1st of August is Yorkshire day and was first celebrated in1975 as a protest against local government re-organisation of the counties. It is also representative of the anniversary of the emancipation of the slaves in the British Empire, for which the Yorkshire MP, William Wilberforce campaigned. The final piece of the puzzle and the link to this area is the fact that the first of August is also the anniversary of the Battle of the Minden. In 1759, during the Seven Years War, two French armies worked their way across Western Germany, capturing important towns on their way. Both French armies commanded by Marquis de Contades and The Duc de Broglie lay at the town of Minden, threatened to invade.
The Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry at the battle of Minden
An allied force made up of Prussian, Hanoverian and British forces, of which the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry was one, under the command of Prince Ferdinand lay to the North West of the town. On 1 August 1759, on their way to battle, British forces passed through gardens in Minden which were blooming with roses. The soldiers picked white roses and placed them in their headdresses and coats. The allied army defeated the French and Minden Day is celebrated on 1st August. In all battalions of the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, now part of the Yorkshire Regiment, a white rose is worn in their caps to commemorate those who fell during battle.
A central tradition of Yorkshire Day is the reading of the Yorkshire Declaration of Integrity, which affirms Yorkshire's ancient foundation in 875 AD (as the Kingdom of Jorvik;by the Viking chief Halfdan Ragnarsson and asserts the inviolability of its ancient boundaries:
"I, [Name], being a resident of the [West/North/East] Riding of Yorkshire [or City of York] declare: That Yorkshire is three Ridings and the City of York, with these Boundaries of [Current Year minus 875] years standing; That the address of all places in these Ridings is Yorkshire; That all persons born therein or resident therein and loyal to the Ridings are Yorkshiremen and women; That any person or corporate body which deliberately ignores or denies the aforementioned shall forfeit all claim to Yorkshire status. These declarations made this Yorkshire Day [Year]. God Save the Queen!"
So - no better time or place to celebrate Yorkshire day than on the 1st of August on the Minden (somewhere!). All that needs to be done is click here and then answer some questions about God's own county. Good Luck.
