Der Schönkahler ist ein 1688 m hoher Berg in den Allgäuer Alpen. Direkt über den Gipfel verläuft die Staatsgrenze zwischen Deutschland und Österreich. Er ist ein eher wenig bewanderter Gipfel - was unserer Meinung nach sehr bedauerlich ist, da er trotz seiner vergleichsweise geringen Höhe eine tolle Aussicht bietet. Vorteil daran ist, dass die Tour absolut nicht überlaufen ist und einem auch bei schönem Wetter keine Muggel-Massen über die Füße laufen.
Eine Möglichkeit für eine Wanderung ist der Parkplatz (Parkkoordinate 1) am Gasthaus "Zugspitzblick" oberhalb von Zöblen.
Von diesem Startpunkt aus könnt ihr wennschon der Beschilderung zum Schönkahler entlang der Forststraße folgen. Kürzer und unserer Meinung nach auch landschaftlich schöner ist der Wiesenweg. Da dieser stellenweise nicht ganz so gut ausgezeichnet ist, haben wir euch dafür Wegpunkte gesetzt. Damit sollte der Weg problemlos zu laufen sein. Auf Openstreet-Map-Karten ist der Weg auch ganz gut verzeichnet. Als gedruckte Karte können wir die "DAV BY5 Tannheimer Berge, Köllenspitze, Gaishorn" empfehlen.
Der Wiesenweg führt euch zunächst auf den Pirschling und dann von dort über den Bergkamm zum Schönkahler. Ihr könnt auch an WP 5 rechts dem geschotterten Forstweg folgen, umrundet damit den Pirschling und steigt dann an der Pfrontener Alpe zum Schönkahler auf.
Für den Aufstieg ab dem "Zugspitzblick" müsst ihr etwa 2 Stunden rechnen. Die gesamte Tour Zugspitzblick-Gipfel-Zugspitzblick umfasst etwa 10 km (über den Wiesenweg). Festes Schuhwerk sollte selbstverständlich sein, ansonsten ist die Tour eher als einfach zu bewerten und sollte auch mit Kindern gut machbar sein. Bis zur Pfrontener Alpe sollte der Forstweg (!) auch Kinderwagen-geeignet sein. Ab da geht es durch die Wiesen. Im Sommer läuft in Gipfelnähe recht viel (teilweise sehr neugieriges) Weidevieh umher - Angst vor Kühen oder Pferden sollte man also keine haben. :-)
Wem die Schwarzer Adler A-Tour alleine nicht genug ist, kann zwischen #24 (GC5RZ6R) und #25 (GC5RZ6Y) einen Abstecher zu dieser Dose machen :-)
Weitere Einstiegsmöglichkeiten bieten sich von der Achtalstraße aus. Ihr könnt dafür den Parkplatz Schönkahler (Parkkoordinate P2) nutzen und dann über den angegebenen Wegpunkt auf einem Forstweg bis zur Pfrontener Alpe wandern. Ab da geht es dann über die Wiesen zum Schönkahler rauf.
Eine weitere schöne Möglichkeit bietet sich ab der Parkkoordinate P3 in der Nähe der Seealp. Dort finden am Straßenrand 2-3 Autos bequem Platz und ihr könnt über einen Forstweg (entlang einiger Dosen der Schwarzer Adler E-Tour) bis zur Pfrontener Alpe wandern. Von diesem Parkplatz bis zum Gipfel sind es 8 km und 600 Höhenmeter, die ihr überwinden müsst. Bis zur Pfontener Alpe ist auch dieser Weg Kinderwagen- und Fahrradgeeignet - an der Alpe müsstet ihr beides zur Gipfelbesteigung allerdings zurücklassen. Auch dieser Weg sollte sich sehr gut mit Kindern wandern lassen.
Der Final liegt etwas abseits vom Gipfelkreuz, so dass ihr ungestört loggen können solltet.
English description: The Schönkahler is a 1688 m high mountain in the Allgäu Alps. Directly over the summit runs the national border between Germany and Austria. It is a rather unvisited peak, which is very unfortunate as it offers a great view despite its comparatively low altitude. As a result, the tour is not overcrowded and even in fine weather conditions there are no muggle crowds standing in each others way.
One possibility for this hike is the car park (parking coordinate P1) at the restaurant "Zugspitzblick" above Zöblen.
From this starting point you can follow the signs to Schönkahler along the forest road. The grassy path is shorter and, in our opinion, more scenic. This path is not well marked, so we have listed waypoints for you. This should make it easy to walk. On Openstreetmaps, the path is quite well marked. As a printed map we can recommend the "DAV BY5 Tannheimer Berge, Köllenspitze, Gaishorn".
The grassy path leads you first to the Pirschling and from there over the mountain ridge to Schönkahler. You can also follow the gravel forest path at WP 5 to the right, circle the Pirschling and then ascend along the Pfrontener Alpe to Schönkahler.
For the hike from the "Zugspitzblick" you have to expect about 2 hours. The whole tour Zugspitzblick-Schönkahler-Zugspitzblick includes about 10 km (following the grassy path). Sturdy shoes should be worn, otherwise the tour is easy and can also be done well with children. Up to the Pfrontener Alpe the forest path (!) should also be suitable for buggies. From there it leads through the meadows. In summer there is a lot of grazing cattle (partly very curious) running around near the summit - so don't be afraid of cows or horses. : -)
If the Schwarzer Adler A-Tour alone is not sufficient, you can make a detour between #24 (GC5RZ6R) and #25 (GC5RZ6Y) to this cache box : -)
Further opportunity for getting here is from the Achtalstraße. You can use the parking lot Schönkahler (parking coordinate P2) and then hike along Waypoint WPA on a forest track to the Pfrontener Alpe. From there walk over the meadows to the Schönkahler.
Another nice possibility is from the parking coordinate P3 near Seealp. You can park 2-3 cars at the roadside and follow a forest path (along some caches of the Schwarzer Adler E-Tour) up to the Pfrontener Alpe. From this parking lot to the summit there are 8 km and 600 meters of altitude difference to conquer. This trail is also suitable for buggies and bicycles all the way up to the Pfontener Alpe - but you will have to leave both at the Alpe to walk up to the summit. This path should also be very good for hiking with children.
The final cache box is a little bit off the summit, so you will hopefully sign the log undisturbed.
