St. Michael's Blewbury stands on the site of an Saxon church of which, sadly, nothing remains. However the parts of the nave and sanctuary that were built by the Normans to replace the earlier church do survive. The church evolved structurally until the 15th century when the tower was moved from a central position to its present place at the west end of the nave. The chancel was added in the 12th century, the south aisle in the 13th century and in the 14th century the north aisle and Lady Chapel were built. The church was restored in the 19th century and around 1875 the nave roof was replaced with an exact replica of the arch-braced roof that it replaced.
The church is open daily from 9am to 5pm (4pm in winter) and is well worth a look round. There is a downloadable tour of the church for smartphones available using the Viewpoynt app and I spent a long time exploring the church whilst listening to the rector and parishioners using the app.
The church does have a car park which can be found at N51 34.190 W001 14.018.
Make you way round to the south side of the church (Question 1: N51 34.172 W001 14.088) You will be stood in front of the headstone of Edward of East Oxford. He was born 18AB, died in 18CD. His wife died at the age of EF
From there head towards the seat (Question 2: N51 34.180 W001 14.097). There are G words carved on the backrest.
