The Portland Sellwood and Milwaukie Railway was one of the first electric-interurban lines constructed in the Pacific Northwest. Construction on Portland’s long-lived Interurban lines began in 1890, operating as the East Side Railway, and service was quickly established to the town of Sellwood. The line was extended to Milwaukie where carbarns and shops were built. (http://www.pdxhistory.com/html/streetcars.html)
Nearby is a horse-drawn trolley car at the museum. It is the only Portland Street Railway Co. car to survive from the 1800's.

Historical Trolley Line Reborn as Rail-Trail
It was an idea, the develoment of a trail over the once old trolley lines between Milwaukie and Gladstone. The dream has become reality in that the trail now connects the bike lanes of Milwaukie and Gladestone to the Metro regional trail system which makes up part of the 20 mile continuous loop of Portland, Gladstone Milwauke, Oregon City and Gresham.
