The Truckee Legacy Trail connects the Town of Truckee to the neighborhoods to the east of Glenshire Devonshire, Cambridge Estates, and The Meadows. This trail follows the Truckee River downstream and passes through areas of geological and historical interest.
This trail can be enjoyed by foot traffic or by bicycle, and even by cross country skis in the winter.
This cache lends itself to one of the many fabulous views of the Truckee River and the Truckee Legacy Trail. Across the river, you may see one of the 45 or so trains that travel the Transcontinental Railroad through Truckee daily, including Amtrak.
Please approach the cache indirectly by moving uphill to the left and then back to the right to the cache. You will find the scree much easier to travel across this way.
When you find this fine example of a Cercocarpus ledifolius, or curl leaf mountain mahogany, be sure to look more closely and you will find my favorite lichen, Letharia colombiana. It has really cool little black cups and a vibrant green color. It is much more common to spot this lichen at higher elevations growing on Red fir, so this is an extra special find.
