Geocache Description:

This cache is dedicated to Dr Evil, the UK’s first ever winner of the geocacher of the month award (August 2013) awarded by geocaching.com

The cache is not at the given coordinates, they mark the place where Dr Evil was found, which luck would have it, is a good place to park. Solve the puzzle at the end of the story to get the cache.

On the night of 6th June 2000 Dr Evil was in a race to place the very first cache in England.  It was a wet and windy night, but he battled through the wind and the rain, torch in one hand, micro in the other, up into the woods in Manor Park near his home in Caterham. At some point during his search, he lost his torch, not deterred he carried on searching.

For hours he searched for a suitable spot in the rain until he finally found one up a tree.  He climbed up and up.  Suddenly he was startled by a crack of thunder overhead and he lost his footing.  He was sent tumbled down, hitting branches on the way.

Know body knows how long he was unconscious, but when he awoke he was aware of great pain in his left hand.  He sat up, in the pitch black.  Dazed he looked at his hand, it was such a dark night he could see nothing.  At that moment lightning struck lighting up the trees.  It has been said that what Dr Evil saw at that moment has haunted him for the rest of his life, he rarely speaks about it.  At that moment he realised his hand was missing, all that was left was a bloody stump.  Mention to anybody living in Caterham at the time and they will tell you of the scream that rung out across Caterham, it haunts their memories.  It is rumoured that it could even be heard as far away as Caterham on the Hill.

It took Dr Evil 2 hours to work his way out of Manor Park, where he collapsed in the car park of exhaustion.  He spent the night where he collapsed until a dog walker found him early Tuesday morning.  The following day the emergency services followed the trail of blood back to that tree, but his hand was never found.

In 2003 a group of hikers was shading under the tree.  They came screaming out of Manor Park, claiming they had seen the hand, no hand was ever found.  Mysteriously a year later the tree caught fire, burning down to a 5ft stump. Locals refuse to go anywhere near the tree, saying the hand caused the fire, and still lurks there.

I cannot recommend this cache to be undertaken after dark. Locals maintain the tree is cursed. Those who have ventured after dark have had a terrible misfortune and are still suffering to this day.

As for Dr Evil.  Years later in May 2014, he visited what was officially the first cache to be placed in England on June 6th 2000.  He still maintains to this day he should hold the title.
