This cache was placed about 65 feet south of the Mud Spring Trail, between the Sandia Mountain Natural History Center, and the Faulty Trail. There thus are two ways to this cache, one from the Faulty Trail and one from the Sandia Mountain Natural History Center. If you start from the Faulty trail, I suggest you first look at the description to Budabeli's cache listed above in the Summary, so you will know where to depart the Faulty Trail from. The other option is to start from the gate to the Sandia Mountain Natural History Center (SMNHC). WARNING- For those cachers who "pack some heat" (firearms for personal protection), the SMNHC is an Albuquerque Public School property, and as such is a GUN FREE ZONE! The director of the SMNHC has asked, that due for security reasons for the children, that no-one pass through the gates during the hours of 8-5 weekdays. If for whatever reason you do go there during this time, you are required to go to the main office and check in with the attendant on duty. Weekends, and late afternoons after 5PM, are thus the best times to access this trail trough the SMNHC property.
There is a small pullout on the north side of the road, just before the gate. To get to this gate, head west on Columbine Lane from North Highway 14, Cedar Crest, NM. The terrain is fairly flat at the cache location. However I rated the terrain as 2 1/2, due to the hike that is necessary to get to the cache.
I hope you have fun on this trail. Cache On!
