Geocache Description:

This is the second installation of events that will hopefully take place atop large rock formations, with this one being on Abram's Rock in Swansea. Parking is available at one of the two coordinates below only so do not attempt to come in from another location. The woods here have plenty of caches to find so come make an afternoon of it!

The previous event here had a relatively small turnout but those who attended still had a good time. Ideally this event atop a new (and more famous!) rock in Swansea will also create a good time for folks.

This event will take place on Saturday, October 18th from 1 until 3 p.m. (or so). Feel free to stop by for a few minutes or the entire two hours.

Notes about terrain:

The climb to the top of the rock is not easy, but still doable. If for whatever reason you are unable to make the climb to the top of the rock you can still attend the event. In fact, the event can come to you at the bottom of the rock if needed. If you get there and realize you can't make it to the top, just give us a holler to the top and we will see what we can do. If you know beforehand you won't be able to climb to the top as well, send an email or specify in your log so necessary accommodations can be made.

Notes about rappelling:

Expert climber/rappeller RIclimber will be on hand to help anyone who wants to learn about rappelling and climbing. Expert and novice climbers alike are welcome to do so. However, you will need to provide your own climbing gear if you wish to take part in the lesson. Feel free to email or note in a log any questions you may have about this.

Notes about trail maps:

A trail map for village park can be found by clicking here. This map was created by mountain bikers. To help get your bearings, the library parking lot is on the left side of the map. Wildcat Rock can be seen at the bottom. Please note that the "Fire Road" trail is frequently under water around the "Up and Over" intersection so you may have to detour a bit. Also note that the trails are not marked with tags. The Boy Scouts marked the Abram's Rock loop, but that's it so far.

We hope to see you there! smiley
