Geocache Description:

A little walk with plenty of places to explore with views of the River Eden which lead's you to an historical feature.

Lacy's Caves consists of five chambers carved out of sand stone cliff directly above the River Eden. The caves were commisioned in the eighteenth century by Lieutentant Colonel Samuel Lacy (infamouse for once attempting to blow up the stones of Long Meg) who lived in near by Salkeld Hall.

The caves were used by Colonel Lacy as a romantic folley for entertaining his guests and the area was originally planted with ornamental gardens, containing colourful Rhododendrons, some of which still survive today.

Caution! The caves are located on cliffs that have unguarded sheer drops into the River Eden, please be aware especially if there are Children in your group.  The cache is located inside the cave away from the cliff edge.
