Geocache Description:

A cache in the small village of Nomikiana near the chapel of Agias Zonis.


Nomikiana is located at the southern coast of Crete, there you can visit the chapel Agias Zonis which is built into the rocks of the nearby mountains. In the yard of Agias Zonis you will find the monument of Giorgos Perres (1875-1913) from the village of Asfendou who was one of the first to participate as a volunteer in the “Macedonian Struggle” of 1904-1908. Perres also participated in the First Balkan War (1912-1913), at the head of a force that fought to capture the island of Chios from the Turks. He was killed fighting on the 4th of December, 1912 at Pythi on the island of Chios.
