This cache has been archived.

jallwork: This has gone missing too many times now (original homemade brick, then the cache, the pine conde and false rock replacements), so I'm archiving it.

Geocache Description:

This is part of a new 'Time Gentlemen Please' series, which has been set up to highlight the demise of the traditional British pub.

The Time Gentlemen Please series was started by leecar23 in Stockport. As far as I know this is the first cache outside that area.

I know very little about The Ship and Castle (Tafarn Y Gwch a'r Castell), except it was at 53 High Street (Stryd Fawr). I believe it closed in 2009 and the site is now a coffee shop which opened in July 2013. If readers have any more information, please let me know.

Photos can be seen at:

The closed pub

and of course via Google Earth.

Thanks to leecar23 for thinking of this series and placing his own around Stockport. There should be a web site dedicated to this series soon and hopefully it will expand like the SideTracked, Church Micros, Masked mast etc.

Until the web site is up and running, should you want to add to the series please do so. Please start the title with 'TGP-' (no spaces) and it will then be found by my statistics program, which I hope will be included in the web site. It would also be polite to contact leecar23 and tell him about it. The location itself must be a closed pub that has become something else or has been demolished and has NO possibility of reopening as a pub. Please add some history of the pub/building when it was open if possible.

The D rating is 2 because of very busy area

Congratulations on FTF and happy wedding anniversary to UncleSamB
