The church is a cruciform church from 1807. The church is the oldest standing church in Finnmark.
At the end of WWII, when Germany started to retreat back from Norway, they burned and destroyed everything in Karasjok, except for the church.

The final position are close to a place named "Svenskebacken" (Swedish hill). Rumours tells that people fled to Sweden during WWII and the trail passed here.
