Das Alphorn ist ein Blechblasinstrument auf dem Prinzip der Naturtrompete und gilt als ein Nationalsymbol der Schweiz und Österreichs.

Das Alphorn gehört aufgrund seiner Anblastechnik instrumentenkundlich zu den Blechblasinstrumenten, obwohl es traditionell überwiegend aus Holz gefertigt wird.

Ein Alphorn kann man, je nach Landschaft, 5 bis 10 km weit hören.

Die erste bekannte schriftliche Erwähnung eines Alphorns in der Schweiz datiert auf das Jahr 1527.
