Geocache Description:

The Cape Dutch cottage known as Scheepers House (13 Cuyler Street)was on a erf marked in the name of G S Scheepers (on an early map ca.1815)It was given to Susannah Elizabeth Scheepers who was born in 1797 and was probably the granddaughter of Gerrit Scheepers Snr.who acquired the farm Rietvallei with the loan permit granted in 1772.She married Christien Michael Luyt in 1814 but was left a widow in 1836.She died in 1880.The cottage has a voorkamer and an agterkamer with rooms leading off both of these.A lean-to was added to the rear. The house had fallen into disrepair when the Le Roux's acquired it.They restored it,replacing the gables and the thatched roof. The building has the original sash windows and yellow-wood beams and dates back to 1815.The property is been used as a nursey now.Open times is weekdays 8am-5pm,Saturdays 8am-2pm and every 1st Sunday of each month from 9am-3pm.Got permission from the owner Yvonne. Have a look at all the other little thatched roof houses around.
