These 1,722 acres were acquired through purchase in 1924 and named for E.O. Siecke, who was teh Texas State Forester from 1918-1942. The healthy and productive forest that exists today is the result of public forest stewardship after heavy logging, devastating wildfires and insect epidemics that were common at the turn of the century.
The primary purpose of this forest is resource education for Texas citizens and visitors. Sound scientific forest management that protects and perpetuates native flora and fauna is practiced. Forest management demonstration areas and sites exist throughout the forest. Special attractions include a historic fire tower, the oldest stand of slash pine, and Trout Creek.
