The Germanna Foundation owns and manages 179 acres of forested land called Siegen Forest located between the Rapidan River and Virginia Route 3 in Orange County, Virginia, which was part of the original Germanna tract on which Lt. Governor Alexander Spotswood and the Virginia General Assembly settled the first colonies of Germans in 1714 and 1717. The Potomac Appalachian Trail Club helps the Germanna Foundation maintain almost 5 miles of walking trails that wind through these woodlands.
Meet at the Germanna Foundation parking lot in front of its Visitor Center at 1 p.m. to learn about these most scenic trails. We will be located near the Red Trail trailhead. After a short overview, handouts will be distributed that detail each trail. Stay as long as you like.
By attending this event, you will:
- meet some of the fun and eclectic members of the local geocacher community
- learn about the Blue, Red, Orange, and Chimney/Witness trails
- earn a souvenir of Groundspeak's 7 Souvenirs of August challenge.
