BringABrolly Flashmob Event Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

Team Microdot: Looks like the logs from all those who attended are now in so it's time to put this one to bed.

Big thanks once again to all those who took the time and trouble to come along.

After the success of this event - we might just organise another one before the year is out [;)]

Geocache Description:

A flashmob event in Astley Park, Chorley - on Saturday 23rd August @ 6:00pm - fully prepared for the average British Summer

!!! NEWSFLASH !!! - extra activities have now been added to this event - Wherigo training on our Wherigo cache which is also in the park so if you've never done one before and/or you want to earn yourself an extra souvenir - please join in by mentioning that you'd like to do the Wherigo in your Will Attend log or in a note if you've already logged. SCROLL DOWN to the announcements further down this page for more information.

With the 7 Souvenirs of August upon us we started looking for August events in the Chorley area - and found none!

And so we thought what the heck - let's organise a small gathering ourselves - and the idea of this flashmob event was born.

Now given that this event is in the midst of the British Summertime the weather could throw anything at us - and a flashmob generally needs a focus or a theme - and it needs to be something that as many attendees as possible can reasonably achieve so... BRING A BROLLY!

The way we figured it, attendees bringing an umbrella with them serves several purposes

  • It provides a unifying theme for the flashmob
  • The attendees should be able to recognise each other by what they are all carrying
  • It should provide some interesting photo opportunities
  • Perhaps most importantly - it should ensure the event doesn't get rained off

We've chosen a nice location - in front of Astley Hall in Astley Park - which is easy to get to and has loads of free parking (see the provided waypoints for the car park and for the entrance to the path which will lead you in the direction of the meeting point).

All attendees should meet at the given coordinates at 18:00 hours (or 6PM in old money) on SATURDAY 23rd August AND IDEALLY bring an umbrella with them - although having a brolly isn't an essential requirement for attendance but as many as possible will probably make for more memorable photo opportunities.

In fact to add to the atmos anyone who wants to turn up in additional wet weather gear - coats, wellies, hats, ponchos, waders, wetsuit, swimming goggles, snorkel mask and flippers is welcome to do so We might look a bit odd if it so happens that the sunshine is beating down at the time but at least we'll stand out

Once we've allowed a few minutes for everyone to arrive we'll all bunch up together - umbrellas open and held aloft - grab a few photographs for posterity and then in true flashmob style, quickly disperse.

We look forward to seeing you there

Further to requests for an event badge that attendees can add to their geocaching profile as a lasting memory of their attendance I have prepared the following image. All attendees are entitled to add this to their geocaching profile if they so wish - and I hope you like it

Copy all of this code and paste it to your profile:

<a href="http://coord.info/GC5A2Q3" target="_blank"><img src="http://imgcdn.geocaching.com/cache/608f15fe-2619-4a02-a100-df93c3c7e63a.gif" height="350" width="350" /></a>

NOTE: The image is 350 pixels by 350 pixels - if you need it to be smaller to fit tidily on your profile you CAN alter the numbers in the width and height tags - but just make sure the two numbers match so the image stays square Experiments indicate that below a size of 150x150 it becomes a little difficult to read the text - at least for my aged eyes
