Geocache Description:

Mason Island is a mostly uninhabited island off the west coast of Ireland, the island is approximately 1/2 mile long by 1/4 mile wide and is a juxtaposition of long, white sandy beaches, rocky coves and huge atlantic rocks.

It used to be home to 114 people with a National school and a schoolmasters house.  The last inhabitant left the island in 1957 and now the main residents are the many and varied birds and a few bullocks.

The cache is a small camouflaged container. No stones are to be moved when searching for this cache.

Get a friendly fisherman to give you a lift out to the island, but don't forget to arrange a pick-up time or you could be marooned.

Enjoy a walk around the island and get a sense of the history and nature of the place. Picnic on the beach, swim in the clear waters, search for shells.

Please leave no trace
