Stop by at 2pm on International Geocaching Day - Saturday August 16th - to say "HI" to fellow cachers, swap fishing stories from the Seward Silver Salmon Derby, pass along puzzle secrets learned at the 11am Kenai Event hosted by SSO JOAT, or just to check out the absolutely enormous pullout with outstanding mountain views. The host will only be on site for about a half-hour, then will be heading to Seward to wet a line, or looking for a trailhead to hike out from with his big poodles, or sliding back to his campsite for a relaxing afternoon nap if it's a rainy rainy day.
A nearby cache placed by CohoFive as part of his epic Seward Highway Cache Tour first lured me into stopping here. As I absorbed the scenery and found the cache I came to realize why this pullout was placed - to give us a chance to absorb the mountains forming the backdrop to this portion of the Seward Highway. Every time I stop here, rain or shine the view is stunning yet different. CohoFive did a great job bringing details to light all along the Seward Highway, and this event salutes his vision and his legacy as part of this year's celebration of International Geocaching Day in the Great Land! This event also affords locals and visitors alike an opportunity to log an event cache as part of the 7 Souvenirs of August challenge being run by Geocaching HQ. If you attend this event, you will get the "Socializer" souvenir added to your GC profile!
Rain or shine, stop by and help GeocacheAlaska! Inc pay tribute to CohoFive's Seward Highway Cache Tour series here at the site of GC29TFZ The Great Land. No better time to remember than during the Seward Silver Salmon Derby!
