Fig Tree bay is the most popular beach in Protaras, and one of the most famous beaches on the whole island, as well as the 2nd most fabulous beach in Europe, according to Trip Advisor 2014.
The beach was named after the numerous Fig Trees located at the back of the sandy coast, providing a good shade to visitors and giving an accent to this lovely beach.
You guessed it right. The geocache is placed on the tiny-rocky island, less than 90 meters from the shore. To get there and log the cache, you'll need to get wet. Well, it might technically be possible to reach the island without getting wet by kayaking but this increases the complexity. If you have a waterproof smartphone or GPS device, that would be a great opportunity to take advantage of it. Alternatively, you can just use a waterproof case or put your devices in an air-tight plastic bag (like many did).
The waters are absolutely amazing and crystal clear! DON'T FORGET YOUR SNORKELING GEAR AND WATERPROOF CAMERA!!
The water from the shore to the island is pretty shallow, and all around the island there are smooth rocks that you can step on and feed the colorful fish!
Terrain Explanation
This is a T5 cache, which means reaching the hiding spot is very challenging, and many users will not be able to do so. In this case, this means you will need to cross a short body of water to reach the island. Swimming is required. Additionally, once on the islan you will realise that the ground consists of (very) sharp rocks, which cannot be stepped on without some sort of foorwear. Forgetting your footwear, crocks, or even sliders will likely cause injuries. You have been warned.
Difficulty Explanation
This is a 3/5 hide. Partly because of the challenge of reaching the GZ, but also due to the hide itself, the retrieval of the cache and the logging of it. Please be careful not to get the logbook wet. You will probably not be alone on the island, especially during peak holiday months, and you are also seen from the shore. Stealth is required.
Cache Notes:
- It is located at the FRONT side of the island! (SW, The side seen from the beach)
- It is a small but not tiny transparent cylindrical box
- It has room for some small trackables
- It contains a Logbook, a tiny pencil
and an FTF CERTIFICATE!
I WISH YOU GOOD LUCK AND I AM SURE YOU WILL HAVE A LOT OF FUN! Feel free to lpost spoiler-free pictures, and why not leave a favorite point?
