Who needs an excuse to spend some time on Lake Pleasant? I thought
so. Well, here's your chance to find Arizona's first island
Geocache!
The cache is only minutes from any of the four boat ramps. The
lake was at 90% full when the cache was placed, so I'm not sure
what the approach will be like at the end of the summer when the
level is lower.
The cache is on a hillside but involves an easy, gradual climb
and should not be a problem for adults or kids. There is no trail
per se, but the fluctuating levels of the lake have cleared natural
steps or switchbacks that can lead you up the hill and you can
avoid any interference with the natural vegetation. Since not all
boaters are environmentally friendly to the lake, take some time to
pick up the occasional soda can or plastic bottle (I collected two
cans and one styro cup when I placed the cache).
The cache contains many items which boaters will enjoy. There
also are a couple of items for your young ones. Have fun and take
time to enjoy the lake.
Please note: this cache has been operating since 2001. Recent
logs have reported that the cache was wet. I'm guessing that it
needs a bit of TLC to put it back in order. The problem - we sold
our boat a couple of years ago and can't get out to the cache site.
If any northwest valley boating cachers are interested in
retrieving the cache for me, I'll make arrangements to pick it up
from you. Please send me a message through geocaching.com.
Thanks!!
