This cache is near the site of the historic summer home of John W. Weeks, "Father of the National Forest System in the East". There is an active New Hampshire forest fire lookout tower, which is open to visitors in season, usually from late spring to early fall. The summit lodge is operated as a museum by NH Division of Parks, and is open to visitors from late June through August, and weekends in September.
Mount Prospect is well located for spectacular views of nearby mountains, especially Mount Washington about 15 miles away, and many other peaks and ranges of the White Mountains.
Hike the 1.5 mile auto road (New Hampshire's 1st official scenic byway) at anytime of year. During June through August, and weekends in September, the park road is normally open to vehicle traffic, making access to this cache quite easy.
FOLLOW THE AUTO ROAD ALL THE WAY TO THE SUMMIT. Then seek the cache using GPS. There is no need to deviate from established trail. The cache is a tupperware container with blue top.
