Geocache Description:

This is another in our series of Golf Challenges placed at some of our favourite golf courses. This one is a bit different as the golf course is no longer a golf course! We are very sad that such a beautiful golf course, which was a haven for water birds of all kinds, and was a place of great beauty for our city, had to go. Luckily it seems as if some of the water features and trees are being retained as parkland.

This challenge is not difficult. Just a bit of fun really, but we do meet golfers who do not know the right etiquette and who do all the things mentioned in the wrong answers!

So here goes. Choose the right answer, then look in the table for the corresponding number. The cache is at S 31 5x.xxx   E115 5x.xxx

1.Your first shot is a slice and goes into the bush. What should you do and how long should you spend looking for your ball?

a ) Drop another ball from the secret compartment in your pants leg and yell to the other members of your group, "Oh , here it is. And it's not out of bounds!"

                b) Every player in your group should immediately disappear into the bush with you to help find your ball. They should take their buggies with them so as not to let anyone know they are still in the area and this should be done prior to hitting their own balls

                c) Spend a maximum of 3 minutes looking for the ball. In the mean time you should call the group behind you through to play on in front of your group.

2. After you finish putting on the green, what should you do?

                d) Walk quickly to where you left your buggy on the side of the green nearest to the next tee, then proceed towards the tee.

                e) Take a few minutes to practice a couple of putts. This will come in handy later in the game.

                f) Stand around the middle of the green and tally up your shots and mark it down on your score card.

3.  Your group is now on the tee box getting ready for the next hole. What should you do?

                g) Wait until the group ahead is on the green just in case you hit a drive that is longer than a professional’s drive. It is not good etiquette to hit up on another group.

                h) Laugh and chat and catch up on the week’s news. Have a snack while standing directly behind the player who is teeing off so that you can accurately see where his ball goes.

                i) The player with the best score on the previous hole should hit off when the players ahead have hit their second shot and are out of range of his best shot. Meanwhile the other players in the group can quietly mark their scorecards and watch to see where his ball goes

4. You are walking down the fairway and you see in front of you another player on your fairway facing you and obviously preparing to hit towards you. What is the proper etiquette here?

                j) Politely move yourselves and your buggies out of the way so that you will not be in danger of ruining his shot.

                k) Aim your next shot at him so he gets the message this is YOUR fairway

                l) He should wait patiently off the fairway out of your way until your group has played their shots. Then he can come out on to the fairway and play his shot.

5. On the green what care should be taken?

               m) The player whose ball is closest to the hole should hold the flag. The player whose ball is furthest from the hole putts first. The flag holder should hold the flag at an angle resting against the side of the cup. This makes it easier to get the flag out quickly after the putt has been played.

               n) ) Look for ball markers to make sure you don't step on someone's ball path. Repair any pugmarks you see and try not to swivel your feet so that your shoes do not damage the green

               o) Look at the faces of the other players to make sure those are the same people you started with (make sure you've chipped onto the right green)

6. What should you do if your ball seems to be flying towards some other players?

  p) ) Quickly hand your club to another player in your group

  q) Call your lawyer on your mobile phone. It is a good idea to have the numbers of a lawyer and a doctor in your phone. Also leave your phone on during your round of golf in case anyone needs you.

  r) Shout "Fore!" so the unsuspecting players can take cover.

7. Where can you drive a golf buggy?

                s) Anywhere on the golf course but not in the car park.

                t) On the fairways and around the greens.

                u) On the tee box provided there is room and in the larger sand bunkers only.

8. What is the first basic etiquette rule in golf?

                v) Be quiet when someone is taking a shot.

                w) Do not hurt anyone even if you are very angry.

               y) Never let your shadow get in the way of a good shot.
