How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

A short walk around half of the Point Gellibrand Coastal Heritage Park.


It will take you about 20-30 minutes to walk, a bit less to ride. The whole cache can be completed on well formed paths. Each waypoint has an large sign which describes some of the history of the area, from which you require some information.
You only require the decimal part of the co-ordinates of the next waypoint as they are all S37 52 and E144 54.

All around the park has lovely views of the Bay and coastal regions. Try not to stare at your GPSr all the time.


WP1 - Point Gellibrand Coastal Heritage Park.

The gold rush and wheat boom of the mid 18AAs increased demand for supplies and a busy railway network was established here to service all of Victoria.

The untended graveyard was utilised for the next 1B years.

WP2 - Colony & Prisoners

It is 1F6G and a boy is caught stealing ducks. He has no mother and his father and sister are already law offenders. He is sentenced to H months imprisonment, most of which he spends on board the prison hulk 'Deborah'. He is just J years old.

WP3 - Railways

Adjacent to the railways, was an extraordinary tramway built by prison labour in KFLM, it sat N meters above sea level, and transported bluestone from the Gellibrand Quarry to Breakwater Pier.

The Williamstown to Geelong line was complete in 1857 and P years later the line to Melbourne was finished.

WP4 - Quarantine Burial Site

Banning the Pram quote was from The Williamstown Cemetery Minute Book, 1QRS

Victoria's first (colonial) cemetery was hastily established here after the devastation wrought by the plague ship in 1842. How many letters in the ship's name = T

(My father) was a winch driver on the wharf. He was in gang number 9V which was a well-known gang on the wharf.
