Geocache Description:

Cache along the trail with lovely lookouts and easy access from parking area. Not over populated generally.

We have placed this cache to honour and educate about The Petun Indians. This native population lived in the 1600's with 9 villages spanning across the Collingwood area. They practiced corn horticulture and were involved in fur trade. Their population is said to have been over 10,000 by 1623. There is a protected area along this escarpment called the Petun Conservation Area. You can research this native population at the Collingwood Public Library under local history as well as online at (www.nvca.on.ca. During their history they could watch from the escarpment, out over the bay, for intruders.
