Geocache Description:

On 28 July 1914, the First World War, also known as the Great War began.  It lasted until 11 November 1918, many Canadian were killed during this war to end all wars, even more were wounded or never the same again.

Each cache in this series is dedicated to the memory of family members who has served in the Canadian Armed forces or went off to War to “guard” our freedom.


In Memory Of

Lance Corporal George Lundy Tolson

George Lundy Tolson was born 20 March 1894 in Bedford, Halifax , Nova Scotia, Canada.   He was the son of Albert Tolson and Elizabeth Jane Lundy.

George signed the Oath of Allegiance on 14 December 1914 and arrived in England on 29 May 1915.  He joined the 25th Battalion, Canadian Infantry and embarked for France 15 Sept 1915, on 4 May 1918 he was awarded the Military Medal.

Based on witness testimony, on the night of 6 Aug 1918, George complained of severe cramps, stating he had injured himself accidently while mounting his horse.   Four days later on 10 August 1918, he died due to a strangulated hernia.   His military service records indicate his official cause of death to have been “Died of injuries accidentally received.”

George Lundy Tolson was buried in Mont Huon Military Cemetery, Le Treport, France.
