Geocache Description:

You’re looking for a regular-sized, cylindrical container hidden in a winter-friendly way about 15m off the trail.

Pics along the wayAre you the kind of cacher who wants to explore new trails, do a little way-finding, experience the odd “Hmm, what now?” moment, and, in the summer season anyway, do a lot of pushing through thick growth along a trail with the legs and sometimes arms?

If you’re still reading this, then this cache just may be for you.

Yes, this excursion to the far side of the loop is off the beaten path, and you will have to have your wits about you along the way, but in return you’ll be rewarded with the satisfaction of exploring new trails and new territory.

The entire loop is approximately 6 km and took me around 3 hrs to complete, including rests, DEET spraying, scratching my head at what to do next when entering wide expanses of tall grasses and cattails, and checking out the cool old cabins at the south end of the loop.

I have created far more than the usual number of waypoints below to help you with answers to a few of the little wayfinding puzzles I had to solve my first time out. Most waypoints are named with the idea of doing the loop in a counter-clockwise direction, but of course they’ll still work if you decide to hike clockwise.

For a "big picture view" of the hike, please have a look at the "My Track Log in Google Earth" image attached. For more detail, please don't hesitate to contact me for more information about the hike. I'd be very glad to share my track log with you; it could be very handy figuring out what to do at certain puzzling points along the route.

The cache is stocked with some very neat swag and, get this, a nice FTF prize. The container and everything in it, including the prize, is thanks to CachingCarol&Hugh who very kindly donated the ready-to-hide cache as a prize at geocaching event and I was lucky enough to win it. A sincere thanks to them!
