Geocache Description:

Thanks to KUSUNFLOWER for kindly fixing up the cache - appreciated. Scotts run nature preserve is a beautiful spot in Northern Virginia just of the 193 Georgtown Pike. Scott Run creek then makes its way via a very pretty waterfall to join the mighty Potomac river. An easy and lovely walk.

Update May 4th 20. We've seen reports of the cache being muggled, shame this has happened. We had planned to come back and service the cache this spring but the Covid outbreak has prevented this. Sorry, we will do it as soon as we are able. Please let us know the state of it, photos are helpful. Stay safe and our best wishes to you and your family. Barney & Dad x Oct %th 2018. Visited the cache - log book replaced, cache cleaned and re-hidden. Enjoy! - look after the park :-)

*** April 22 '18 - PLEASE cover / hide this cache at the base of the ......'feature'..... Recent visits reflect it being left 'out in the open' - please hide it back for the benefit of future geocachers and to respect the environment -Thank you Bar ney..... My young son loved Scotts Run, he loved trying to build little dams in the creek, and generally playing and pretending as kids do. He wanted something left for other kids (and adults!) to enjoy after he had left.

The trail and area is busy, also in winter the creek can rise high; so this cache had to be placed out of the creeks reach and away from muggles!

The car park runs North and leads you to the trail head.

The co-ordinates are reasonably accurate given the tree coverage. This cache is well hidden so please please hide it as you found it so others may enjoy.

The cache is a clip top plastic waterproof box 0f 5 1/2" x 3 1/2" x 4 1/2". It is painted matt olive green and is well camouflaged! There are a couple of ways you could approach the cache, both quite steep. Be careful if you chose the rock scramble as it is a little steep ansd may be slippery; easy enough in summer, difficult in winter as you may get wet at the start ;-)

Now some directions....

From Where I lay I can see the southerly first stepping stone at 157 degrees (true north). Looking stright down to the creek at 146 degrees from where I lay I see rolling rocks ripple through the water towards me, and a steep flat slab lead stright up towards me. I live under a little big tree.

This cache has been approved by Fairfax County Parks Authority Please observe all park rules as posted at the trail head. No activity after dark.
